Business Central tracks lot numbers, serial numbers and expiry dates on every receipt, transfer, sale and return, and traces any lot forward to the customers who received it and backward to the supplier. Prismware configures item tracking for medical device, food, chemical and parts distributors, with GTIN and UDI device identifiers carried on the item and captured by scanner.

How it is set up.
Item tracking codes. Each item is set to track by lot, serial or both, with expiry dates required where they apply.
Device identifiers. GTINs and UDI device identifiers sit on the item, so a GS1 barcode scan resolves to the right product, lot and expiry.
Scanner capture. Lot, serial and expiry are captured at receiving and verified at picking on Honeywell handhelds Prismware supplies.
Item tracing. One search returns the full chain of custody for a lot or serial number.

Recalls, principal audits and regulatory inspections all ask the same question: where did this unit come from, and where did it go. Business Central answers it from one record, and returns, repairs and warranty claims run against the same serial number.
